This session is designed for families to provide a basic introduction to mountain biking, including riding skills and the anatomy of a MTB. It will help new riders to understand the key skills required and will enhance the skills and confidence that more experienced riders may already have. The session will be FUN and educational and is suitable for all abilities from aged 7 to 14. As this is targeted at families, all riders under 14 must be accompanied by an adult, which all adds to the fun! The session will be progressive and help the riders to ride smoother and safely. As well as riding the trails, we will be playing some cycling games too.
The focus of the session will be to introduce core riding techniques including gears, braking, pedalling, balance and body position and is the foundation for mountain biking.
We will, start by checking the condition of all bikes and equipment and assess rider capability, to ensure safe and fun riding at all times.
The coaching will be undertaken by a friendly and experienced mountain bike coach who is British Cycling qualified with first-aid training and PVG clearance. The ratio of coach to riders will be 1:8 maximum.
The cost for each rider is £25 for the 2.5 hour sessions, which offers excellent value for money.
All riders should have a fully working mountain bike and the wearing of a helmet is mandatory. It is also advised to wear gloves and riders should also bring sufficient clothing to cope with the varying weather conditions at Cathkin Braes. Light refreshments should also be brought along too, and items can be left securely in a van if required.
The meeting point is the top car park at Cathkin Braes, just off Cathkin Road (G42 9UJ). All riders will be required to complete a consent form, which will be emailed out once a ticket is purchased. This must be completed ahead of any rider taking part in the sessions.
